Congratulations to Crestline's Spotlight on Success Recipient, Skyland Fire & Rescue

September 25, 2015 – Saskatoon, SK, Canada - Skyland Fire & Rescue has actively served their community of South Asheville, North Carolina, since 1954. Only six years later, Harry Hinman, father of their very own EMS Coordinator Tim Hinman, established the first Rescue Squad in Buncombe County.

Chief Dennis Presley, Veteran of the EMS community for 37 years, has been the proud leader of Skyland Fire & Rescue since 1995.  Since the early 1960’s Skyland has been a leader in the fire and rescue service industry, not only in the county but throughout state of North Carolina. Much recognition is attributed to Chief Presley’s influence and guidance, as he’s inspired a new standard of excellence in customer service throughout Skyland Fire & Rescue and the entire state of North Carolina. In January 2014, Skyland Fire Department set another milestone being the first fire department in Buncombe County to add a paramedic transport unit.

The Skyland Fire & Rescue organization is engaged non-stop through their coverage of more than 55 square miles which serves a population of 35,000. Their projected call volume for 2015 is roughly 3000, which is nearly double compared to previous years! But you can be confident and reassured that if you’re in need of their services, you’ll be in great hands because Skyland Fire & Rescue has actively adapted to the growth and the challenges associated. Not only are they fully staffed with 114 experienced and passionate professionals, but they are equipped with all the necessary lifesaving tools and equipment including four engine companies and two ambulances, including a Crestline Summit Type III ambulance, plus QRV’S, boats, UTV’S and Search & Rescue Dog Team!

Skyland Fire Department prides themselves on exceptional customer service and a strong commitment to their community. Understanding there are many circumstances which are difficult or impossible to comprehend and process during or after a major event, Skyland Fire & Rescue provides the support and care needed to help individuals, families and the community affected by life’s tragedies. In addition to their compassionate support, Skyland offers a number of programs open to their community, fire service, schools, residential, nursing homes and the workplace. The programs include but are not limited to: fire Prevention, smoke alarms, CPR in the community & workplace, fire extinguisher training for the work place, child passenger seats, Key Risk, Juvenile Fire Setters. There are also programs provided for fallen firefighters and their families: Buncombe County Honor Guard and North Carolina Fallen Firefighters, to name a few.
